About Me: John R. Osborne, Jr.
“It’s more than just the law it’s the people.”
I grew up in a small town west of Houston. A town where everyone still waves as you drive through. I then attended Sam Houston State University where I majored in football. I like to say I “played” football in college but the truth is I “practiced” football. I didn’t see much playing time. The funny thing is I now say I “practice” law when in reality I am deep in the game.
After graduating Sam Houston, I dabbled in various jobs before heading off to law school. I graduated from Texas Tech Law School in 2000 where I also obtained my MBA. I have a wife, 3 kids and 2 dogs. I play too much golf and I am really bad at it. I’m really good at SCUBA but I don’t get in the water near enough.
My parents still live in the home I grew up in. My mom was the coordinator for the county senior citizens program for 30 plus years and my dad was an elementary principal for over 30 years.
Sometimes no matter how hard you try you can’t get away from your roots. I ran away to be a lawyer. In a way I didn’t get far. Sure I became a lawyer but I live 23 miles from where I grew up and in a way I now deal with both of their careers. With the probate and estate planning I do deal with seniors and I feel like I am always teaching.
Why Probate and Estate Planning?
Working at a bigger firm, we would do the occasional probate. Clients would come into my office lost. They had just lost a loved one and on top of not thinking clearly they didn’t know what to do. Sure, my office could probate their will, we could handle all the legal things, but there was a need for more.
A lot of the trouble people were having was due to the lack of planning. That’s why I offer comprehensive estate planning. Sure you get documents on the internet for cheap. Our services are much more comprehensive. With each estate planning package we offer an inventory of the estate. This inventory can be used for insurance purposes and for preparing a financial statement.
Why family law?
As a dad in a blended family I understand the issues stemming from divorce. I have personally seen modifications, and enforcement. I feel a strong passion to help these families.
Why real estate and business?
My original passion in college was business. I have a degree in marketing and also a MBA. After working several years after college and seeing how important law was to business I decided to pursue law. After law school I worked for a firm handling major business litigation and servicing real estate loans. Now, as a small business owner myself I can understand the plight of small businesses yet I still have big company experience.
